Joe Kilbride
What excites you about working in the property industry?
I love the pace of the property industry, dealing with people and negotiating deals, it gives me a buzz.
When did you first decide that you wished to work in property?
I have been coming into the office and helping at weekends and school holidays since I was about 8 or 9. My dad has a picture somewhere of me sitting at his desk, picking up the phone when I was about 10, he said I was a natural. I’m not academic like my two brothers; I didn’t like school and knew higher education wasn’t for me, but I always knew I could make a good estate agent one day.
What are the advantages of being a family-run agency?
It’s great, we have a lot of fun and laughs together, dad knows his place – I am the boss! Seriously, we are exceptionally tight and work well together, there is no excuse for poor communication when we work and live together.
Describe your role and what you enjoy most.
I love talking to people, so I am in my element. I love finding properties for people and negotiating deals, the tougher the better. Always achieving the best for our clients is what’s important. I know I am very young to be Sales Director, but I don’t believe age is an issue; if you are confident and knowledgeable and treat people with respect, they accept you. When my dad was very ill last year and in hospital I was really proud that he trusted me and had the confidence in me to step up. Patrick and I held the fort when dad was in hospital and we coped pretty well.
What do you love about Cheadle?
Cheadle is a nice friendly place to work. It is a village in the truest sense, but is only 20 minutes from Manchester city centre and 10 minutes from Manchester International Airport, plus there are excellent motorway links, rail and tram stations nearby at Gatley and Parrswood. There is a good amount of open green space too, which adds to the appeal of the area.
Like Patrick, I like Jazz, but I am so glad there is a Subway in Cheadle – their sandwiches are delicious. I also love Bruntwood Park; we have been going there since we were little children, it’s changed a bit now, but it’s still a lovely park.
What do you do in your free time?
I like to work hard and therefore enjoy my free time. I love socialising with my friends, I am a bit of a fitness freak and, when able, I’m in the gym most nights of the week. During lockdown I was fortunate to have a gym set up in our garage at home and I was able to train 2/3 hours every day. I also play rugby and am very proud to have represented my county Lancashire in the under 18s and, this season, the under 20s. You can understand why I was gutted that we missed a possible trip to play at Twickenham because our season got curtailed by coronavirus, but as I was playing up a year, I’ll have another opportunity next season and am now even more determined to get there.
Why should someone use your agency?
Because the statistics show we sell houses quicker than any other agent in the area and we have just been voted the best-performing estate agent in SK8 by the recommendation website GetAgent. We put so much into selling somebody’s home, we use the very latest cutting-edge technology to achieve results. We are passionate, hardworking and do the job the right way.
